History
Oolong tea has a long and interesting history. It is believed to have originated in China during Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The name “Oolong” comes from the Chinese words “wu long” which means “Black Dragon”. Oolong tea was first produced in the Fujian province of China, and it was initially made only for the Emperor and his court. Oolong is a traditional Chinese tea made from the partially oxidized leaves of Camellia Sinensis. A tale tells of a man named Wu Liang (later corrupted to Wu Long or Oolong) who discovered oolong tea by the accident when he was distracted by a deer after a hard day’s tea-picking, and by the time he remembered to return to the tea it had already started to oxidize.
